NESC Rugby

A Division II Women's Collegiate Conference

New Conference Formation

Based on the feedback received at the NERFU AGM earlier this month, we are pleased to announce the formation of New England Small College Rugby Conference (NESC Rugby or NESCRC) a new college rugby conference in New England for teams exclusively from the NESCAC colleges.

With other New England colleges moving into conferences, per USA Rugby requirements, we are pleased to form a conference based on the values of our collective institutions: a student-athlete-focused conference that values hard work, sportsmanship and competition with the highest degree of class. It’s an exciting time for our teams and the women who play rugby, and yet there are still plenty of questions to answer and issues to be worked out.

We hope that by building rugby from the bottom-up, we will be able to create grassroots change in the women’s game. The good news is that NESCRC clubs can have a voice in the decisions that lead to incredible change, and all teams will have a fall 2012 schedule to play. Other women’s teams who have already formed conferences are enjoying the experience and reaping benefits by virtue of their association; we expect the same to be true in the our rugby conference and we look forward to enhancing the overall experience, fun, and support for players and coaches in all of our rugby programs.

There will be administrative positions to run the conference, handle disciplinary matters and connect with referees; some people have already stepped up to help but more will be needed. This website will be maintained for scheduling, results, information sharing, posting NESCRC All-Academic Athletes, an All-NESCRC team, and other news-worthy notes. The team dues structure will be similar to or less than that of NERFUs, including USAR CIPP registration fees. Sponsorship may be a way to defray costs. It’s time to join in and be a part of momentous change to rugby in New England!
